Key Meetings to Date

The Government of Alberta acknowledges the concerns of the people of Fort Chipewyan. We have been actively engaged in finding solutions and remain committed to working with the community.

Ministers and officials from Aboriginal Relations, Health and Wellness, Environment and other ministries have visited Fort Chipewyan many times to meet with community leaders, hear concerns and find solutions. Numerous other meetings have also taken place in Fort Chipewyan and in Edmonton with First Nations and Métis leaders and Nunee Heath Board officials.

These are complex issues that will take time to properly resolve. The following is a sampling of the progression of key meetings to date.

 

The importance of relationship-building cannot be overstated. Informal dialogue, building mutual respect and shared understanding, are a prerequisite to any collaborative decision-making. Taking the time to travel to Fort Chipewyan to hear the concerns of local residents in-person is often as valuable as formal policy meetings.
